How does this work?
I've written a small set of scripts that XMMS
calls via the Song Change plugin. The scripts just log the filename and timestamp
for each song that gets played. At about 8PM each night, a job gets run which collates
all the stats for the day and sends them to my web site, where they are incorporated into
the pages you've found here.
Because it's done automatically, it's probably the most accurate way of showing
what I'm listening to. The only problem is that if I get hooked on a particular band
or
new CD for a few days, it can artificially boost its position on the charts.
Is this what you typically listen to?
This is what I listen to at work, which tends to include a lot of techno/dance/electronica.
I do like a lot of that stuff (I'd put Fatboy Slim, Basement Jaxx, and a few others in my all
time favorite artists group). But work also can be boring, and this stuff helps me stay focused
on coding or writing or whatever I have to do that day. So, it tends to be biased.
Once I get the numbers incorporated from my iPod and iBook, I hope that it will show a better
representation of what I listen to. For example, the Cranberries, Billy Joel, and Pearl Jam
also are on my all time favorites list.
